About Us

More than 50 years of sales and service experience!

The way we began:
This Company was started in 1956 as a television repair shop in Gregory by Elmer Karl. The company became a corporation in 1971. The Gregory location for a number of years was also engaged in the electrical contracting business. It had handled such projects as the Rosebud Nursing Home, Gregory Elementary School, the Methodist Church, retail establishments, and many homes in the Gregory area. Mr. Karl relinquished his contractor’s license in 1991.                 

The company expanded in the following order:

1957 Gregory, SD - A new building was constructed,
                                followed by additions to the
                                building throughout the years.
1963 Winner, SD
1965 Pierre, SD
1969 Yankton, SD - A store by the name of Hewitt
                                 Music was purchased and
                                 expanded into the major
                                 appliance sales and service.
1974 Pierre, SD - A new building was constructed.
1975 Pierre, SD - A Team Electronic franchise was obtained and a retail operation began in the same
                              building as the Karl's store.
1976 Norfolk, NE - A Team Electronic store was started in the Norfolk Sunset Plaza.
1977 Yankton, SD - A Team Electronic store was started in the Yankton Mall.
1982 Rapid City, SD - A store by the name of Top Appliance was purchased from Warren Supply Co.
1984 Sioux Falls, SD - The Team Electronic Store in Sioux Falls was purchased from Dave Buresh.
1986 Sioux Falls, SD - Stores by the name of Brodies, one on 8th Street and one in the Western Mall
                                      were purchased from Bruce Brodie.
    1987 Sioux Falls, SD - A new building on 41st
     Street in Sioux Falls was constructed and the
     two former Brodie locations closed.
    1987 Sioux Falls, SD - A store by the name of
     United TV was purchased from Roz Hybertson
     and consolidated into the new location on 41st
     Street.
    1988 Yankton, SD - A new building was
     constructed on Broadway. The Team Electronic
     Store and the downtown Karl's store were
     consolidated into this location.
1989 Watertown, SD - A store by the name of Lake City Appliance was purchased from Chuck Olson.
1991 Watertown, SD - A new building was constructed on 9th Avenue in Watertown and the downtown
                                      location closed.
1992 Sioux Falls, SD - A 10,000 square foot warehouse was added to the 41st Street location in Sioux
                                      Falls.
1992 Sioux Falls, SD - The Team Electronic store in the Empire Mall was completely remodeled.
1992 An appliance & TV store was opened in Spearfish in a furniture store.
1993 North Platte, NE - The Karl's TV and Appliance Store was opened.
1993 Team Electronics in North Platte, NE was purchased from Dick Herdahl and installed in the Karl's
         location.
1994 The Music Center in Huron, SD was purchased from Wes Peppers and converted to a Karl's
         Store.
1996 The furniture store in Spearfish was purchased to combine the appliance & furniture operation.
1996 Purchased Lakeview Appliance in Brookings SD
1997  A new building was built in Huron and a limited amount of furniture and bedding was added.
1998 Purchased Rickbeil’s store in Worthington, Minnesota.
1999 Installed a new computer software system from Storis.
2000 Remodeled the Rapid City location.
2001 Opened the store in North Branch Minnesota near the Tanger outlet mall
2001 Purchase the two locations of Williams in Sioux City, Iowa.
2002 Purchased Dashboard Electronics in Sioux Falls, SD
2003 Built a new building in Sioux City IA for Appliances & Electronics.
2004 Purchased Lang land Appliance in Brookings and consolidated the two businesses.
2004 Built a new building in Rapid City.
2004 Purchased Aberdeen TV & Appliance in Aberdeen
2004 Opened a TV& Appliance store near the outlet mall in Medford, MN.
2006 Completed an addition and complete remodel of the Karl’s store in Sioux Falls.
2006 Opened a TV, Appliance and Furniture store in Gillette, WY...
